Event: Twenty-Five Years On: The Fight for LGBT Rights in the UK (Mar)

The first ‘Southampton Stonewall Lecture’, a new annual lecture devoted to LGBT History from ancient to modern, will take place at University of Southampton (Avenue Campus) on Thursday 1 March at 6pm.

The speaker is Angela Mason, first director of Stonewall, and her lecture title:

    Ah, my alma mater! As I recall it, both the Southampton Uni Conservative Association and the Gay Society were chaired by a guy called Nick Herbert. I wonder what happened to him? Southampton was not a hotbed of tolerance when I was there in the 1980s, so I’m not greatly surprised to see it has taken until 2011 to do something about history month! Bx

    ps. the answer to the question is that he is now the minister of state for policing.
