Women becoming second-rate citizens…

Here’s heads up for another event up and coming in October.

Five Steps Backward: How women become second-rate citizens of Globalisation

Talk by Laura Agustín
13.00 to 14.30, 6 October 2011

Institute of Development Studies, Knots Meeting Area, University of Sussex

Whether the subject is migration, surrogate motherhood, international matchmaking, tourism and expatriatism or plain old commercial sex, women are consistently assigned the passive role. They cannot make their own decisions, men pursue them relentlessly for evil ends and their sexual bodies are innately vulnerable.

A Rescue Industry from the enlightened middle class is required to save women from themselves everywhere. How did we get here after 50 years of women’s liberation, affirmative action programmes and both state and UN policies to instate Gender Equality?

This talk takes place under the Sexuality and Development Programme, at the Institute of Development Studies. Convenor is Kate Hawkins, who can be contacted for further information via k.hawkins@ids.ac.uk

ETA: it is possible some have got hold of the wrong end of the stick on this talk. If people want to know a little more about Laura, they should check out her site: Laura Agustín, The Naked Anthropologist

So the informed opinion of a bunch of middle aged, middle class and overpaid academics is that women are becoming second class citizens. I suggest that you all get together over tea and cucumber sandwiches in some ones living room instead of making careers out of chattering about subjects you all have little or no experience of. It never ceases to amaze me and others with practical knowledge and experience how groups like this can turn other peoples life experience into wages. You only have to check out the sources of funding for this lot to realise their nefarious agenda, UK Department for International Development (47.0%), Economic and Social Research Council (8.4%), European Union (4.9%), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (4.2%), United Nations (4.0%). £16.7 million a year for, errr, well a waffle shop.
I have watched middle class weirdo’s getting their fetishistic kicks from constantly de-constructing and moralising about the sex industry for years and so eloquently proving that they know nothing about real world prostitution and siding so often with the ghastly left wing appropriators.

Jane omitted a link to my website, or I think you’d realise I am not as you assumed… Emphasis is on Rescue Industry. Feel free to see for yourself:
