Smiling thru

And so to bed, with one last thought for the night. About women, and socialising and one of the loveliest things about how my life has changed.

Because women, by and large, seem to be so much more social, so much nicer than blokes. OK, I’m biased.

But for me, this shows in one single thing: the fact that women smile at one another, acknowledge one another in public.

Just as, one to one, there is so much more simple physical connection – the touch to the wrist, the hugs, the warmth – so with women I encounter out and about, there is a friendliness, a dropping of barriers I had never known before.

It is a wonderful feeling: mostly a coming home.

Nicest of all, something I am also learning to do, or maybe re-learning, is the way women smile. Often and openly.

I said it a moment ago, but I’ll say it again: it is a joy to be female.
